January 5, 2010 -- The changing demographics of the US population may have major implications for the financial services industry , the products they offer, and the way they are offered.

There are 100 million unmarried adults in the USA (source: US Census Bureau). They comprise 44% of the workforce (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics) and account for $1.6 trillion in annual consumer spending. (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics and Consumer Survey). Most single women are homeowners and, at the peak of the recent housing cycle, unmarried women accounted for a full 20% of new home buyers.

"Americans now spend more years of their adult life not married than married" (Bella De Paulo, Social Scientist).

"These changes are part of a worldwide revolution everywhere more people are living for longer periods of time outside marriage '' (Stephanie Coontz, Director of Research and Education for The Council of Contemporary Families).

"If you look at women in their 40's, 15-16% have never ben married. That is larger than ever before" (Andrew Hacker, American Political Scientist).

"It is not possible to talk about changes and the way people are getting married without looking at whats happened to women over the past 20-25 years" (Peter Francese, Demographic Trends Analyst, Ogilivy & Mather).

The new documentary, 'Single', highlights many of the contemporary themes that are influencing the composition of our society. An informative and entertaining cast of experts, comedians, singer/songwriters and "real people" discuss the complexities of finding and maintaining a long-lasting relationship in todays crazy world.
