A&E Must Think Long and Hard About Return of Dog the Bounty Hunter Show Following Racist Tirade

A Statement from Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable on A&E Suspension of Dog the Bounty Hunter Show

A&E Television has suspended production of its Dog the Bounty Hunter Show following the expletive laced racist tirade of Duane Chapman aka Dog the Bounty Hunter. Dog’s comments about black women were more than just gender and racially demeaning and hurtful to black women. They were a vicious attack on and call to end interracial relations, as well as an incitement to violence.
Dog the Bounty Hunter’s’ statement was far more damaging than shock jock Don Imus’s. The scheduled meeting between Chapman and the Reverend Al Sharpton will not absolve Chapman of responsibility for the racially hurtful and demeaning sentiments he expressed. A&E should think long and hard whether the show should ever be returned to the airwaves.
